CDs Reign Supreme at Ozzfest
March 30th, 2007 by Sam
Ozzfest promoters have found a novel way to ensure that their artists’ music is
purchased rather than downloaded. The
concert will be free of course, but those who own a copy of “Black Rain” will
find a secret code within that will give them access to a chance at getting a
ticket before others can. Think of it:
they’ve turned the CE into a $30.00 wristband.
I am fascinated by this stroke of marketing brilliance. Not only are the concert promoters selling
more CDs, they are also ensuring that if people really want to see their
favorite artists in person they will have to show they own a hard copy of the
music.
In this way the bit torrents of the world
are snubbed for once, in favor of the old fashioned “I bought it with my milk
money” approach. Hats off to you guys
for finding a reasonable way to combat illegal music downloading. It’s a whole lot better than threatening us
in advertisements with huge fines and jail time.
