Beyonce and Des’ree Duke it Out
April 23rd, 2007 by Sam
Tsk, tsk, Beyonce. You should have known that you need to have permission to use someone else’s music. At least, someone who works for you should have known. Beyonce will soon be sued by English pop artist Des’ree for using her song “I’m Kissing You” without the rights to do so. It’s a standard thing to buy rights or at least to borrow them when you record someone else’s music. It ends up being a cover, and we all love covers.
Now if you don’t know who Des’ree is, don’t be surprised. She was a 1990’s pop singer, known for songs we barely heard on this side of the water. I figure this is more of a publicity stunt than anything, although she seems set on keeping Beyonce from distributing either her album “bday” or the video to “I’m Kissing You.” Seems like a musical cat fight to me. Anyone have the mud?
