ACMA Ignores Jessica Simpson

Posted by Sam on 17th February 2009 in Academy of Country Music Awards, Carrie Underwood, Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson, Kellie Pickler, LeAnn Rimes and Julianne Hough read the nominees for the 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in the Ford Theater at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee last week. Unfortunately, the only wannabe of the group, Jessica, didn’t walk away with any nods. This year’s nominees for Entertainer of the Year are Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood. Hurray for Carrie Underwood! She’s representing the females of country! I hope she wins that category. I think Carrie Underwood is one of the best that country music has to offer.

Posted by Sam on 12th February 2009 in Saving Abel

Jason Null, the co-founder of the rock group Saving Abel, and Brandon Danger, the band’s guitar stringer, have both been charged with felony counts of forced oral copulation and forced oral copulation on a minor after police say they forced a 17-year old girl to perform a sex act after the band’s concert in Oakland. Police say that the girl went on the band’s tour bus Tuesday night under the impression that she was getting a chance to be in a video for the group. Null and Danger were both arraigned this past Friday on the charges. The musician has pleaded not guilty and his attorney says that there is a videotape of the incident to prove that the charges are baseless. Danger has yet to enter a plea.

Pre-Grammy Rihanna

Posted by Sam on 11th February 2009 in Grammy Award, Rihanna

Sunday night may be all about the Grammys but the days prior to that are all about the pre-Grammy parties. Rihanna attended the Verizon & BlackBerry Grammy Party at Boulevard 3 this past Friday in Los Angeles. In other Rihanna news, the 20-year old Barbadian babe has recently been involved on the hunt to help a 5-year old New York City girl find a bone marrow donor. Rihanna told people “When I saw the video of Jasmina it broke my heart. It is so unfair that for a black patient it’s so much harder to find a bone marrow match. Jasmina has acute leukemia and she needs a bone marrow transplant to live.”

Coldplay’s legal issues

Posted by Sam on 11th February 2009 in Coldplay, Hit Song, Music Bands

The British rock band is having a bit of trouble legally since Joe Satriani has stated that their song “Viva la Vida” is based on one of his own creations, “If I could fly”, and has hired a team of legal representatives to present Coldplay with lawsuit papers at the Grammys. Coldplay’s drummer, Will Champion, said: “It’s so far-fetched and ridiculous. But that’s about all we can say at the moment. We’re waiting to see what’s happening but it’s frustrating and annoying and totally unfounded.” What perplexes me is the following: are Coldplay really that good that they can copy something from Joe Satriani?

Blink 182 Makes it Official

Posted by Sam on 11th February 2009 in Blink 182, Reunions

The Angels & Airwaves website first broke the news that the Blink 182 reunion that was originally said to be bogus was actually true. Now, the boys of Blink 182 make it official as they finally break their silence and make it official. The guys said “Hi. We’re blink-182. This past week there’ve been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us. To put it simply, We’re back. We mean, really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in our legacy. Summer 2009. Thanks and get ready…”

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss big Grammy winners

Posted by Sam on 10th February 2009 in Alison Krauss, Grammy Award, Robert Plant

The Grammy Award may have been very exciting on and off screen but nothing can beat the excitement that must have been felt by big winners Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. The two won the 51st Annual Grammy Awards’ “Album of the Year”. Most of the awards distributed during the night were for Krauss and Plant who are known for going against the traditional Plant is more popularly known as a member of the Rock band Led Zeppelin while Krauss is more popular for her Country hits. Never the two shall meet, so they say but rock and country did met and here they are receiving no less than a Grammy.

Plant and Krauss too some risk when they collaborated on “Raising Sand’ but that risk yielded not one but several Grammy Awards. The two’s debut collaboration won for them Album of the Year for “Raising Sand” and Record of the Year for “Please Read the Letter”. Raising Sand got the Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album Award while the singles “Rich Woman” for the Best Country and “Killing the Blues” won the Pop Collaboration with Vocals Award. Plant and Krauss received the awards from Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift.

U2 Premiere New Video

Posted by Sam on 10th February 2009 in Music Video, U2

“Get On Your Boots” has been directed by French film maker and artist Alex Courtes. Alex and former creative partner Martin Fougeral directed the Grammy winning video for “Vertigo”, and also directed the video for “City of Blinding Lights”.

The video was shot in London and features the band performing against complex graphic art designed by Courtes.

Speaking of the song and the video, The Edge has said, “It’s based around the idea that men have f**ked things up so badly, politically, economically and socially, that it’s really time we handed things over to women. The finished video is brilliant. He’s really nailed it.”

“Get On Your Boots” is the first single from U2’s 12th studio album No Line On The Horizon, out 2nd March 2009.
