Metallica frontman James Hetfield donates land to local county
Metallica lead singer James Hetfield is reportedly donating 330 acres of land overlooking the Lucas Valley, in California’s Marin County, for farmland preservation.
The gift is adjacent to another 438.5 acres that he previously donated as an open space easement. The plots of land are around Hetfield’s home.
Scott Hochstrasser, a land use consultant for Hetfield, said the move reflects the singer’s desire to maintain privacy and preserve open space. He is also seeking county approval to re-route a hiking trail that runs through his property, in a deal that would cost local government more than $200,000. Hetfield recently put up a fence to stop use of the trail.
