Posted by Sam on 29th June 2009 in Album, Billboard, Concert, Jonas Brothers

The Jonas Brothers know how to keep their fans happy and the fans know how to return the favor. For the second time in less than a year, the trio of singing brothers debuted at #1 last week’s Billboard albums chart with their latest release ‘Lines, Vines and Trying Times’. The guys from New Jersey sold over 247,000 copies of the record this week and they are on point to keep this good thing going for a few weeks more. It looks like their fame isn’t fading after all. Congratulations for scoring another top spot! With a tour going on, they’re sure to stay there.

Adam Lambert Caught in a Lie

Posted by Sam on 29th June 2009 in Adam Lambert, Album, American Idol

I’m sure that Adam Lambert felt a bit of pressure from his new record label to release a statement regarding an album of some of his older work being released this summer. But did he really have to lie? Indie label Hi Fi Recordings plan on releasing an album of the American Idol runner up’s work from 2007 and 2008. After repeatedly denying his contribution to and condemning the record, the proof is in the credits. A new legal document has been dug up which shows that the singer co-wrote 9 of the 11 songs on the album. Is the album that bad that he doesn’t want his name attached to the songs he co-wrote?

Michael Jackson tops Amazon album chart just hours after his death

Posted by Sam on 26th June 2009 in Album, Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson’s albums have soared to the top of Amazon’s best-selling list just hours after his death.

Online retailer Amazon.com has revealed that their No.1 best-selling album was the 25th anniversary reissue of his Thriller album.

Three other versions of Thriller came in at 12, 13, and 14. Jackson’s 2001 alum Invincible, his last studio album, came in at 10 and other albums in the list were compilations of his hits and his tracks with the Jackson 5.

In a statement Sony Corp Chairman, CEO and President Sir Howard Stringer said: “His artistry and magnetism changed the music landscape forever. We have been profoundly affected by his originality, creativity and amazing body of work.”

It is thought that Jackson, 50, died of a heart attack but the cause of death has not been confirmed.

Green Day has just premiered the video for their new single, “21 Guns,” exclusively on MySpace Music. The video was helmed by noted director Marc Webb, who has lensed clips for such artists as My Chemical Romance, Weezer, and All-American Rejects, and is making his feature film directorial debut in July with (500) Days of Summer.

“21 Guns” is the second single from the band’s latest album 21st Century Breakdown, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, as well as on the Rock, Active Rock, and Alternative charts, fueled by the Alternative radio No. 1 single “Know Your Enemy.” 21st Century Breakdown, which Rolling Stone has called “a rock opera in which the rock always comes first,” also topped the charts in 24 countries including the UK, Canada, and Japan.

Over the past month, Green Day has continued to work with MySpace Music for the promotion of 21st Century Breakdown. During the week of the album’s release, they played an exclusive concert in New York City which was filmed for the site’s premiere online concert program, The List. The performance can now be seen on The List’s official MySpace profile.

This year’s show will take place at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 9th, and air the next day, Monday, August 10th, on FOX at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Fans can vote for Green Day at http://www.teenchoiceawards.com/.

Green Day, which is singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool, are preparing to launch their first proper tour of the United States and Canada in more than three years. The tour runs from July 3rd through August 25th. Please visit http://www.greenday.com/ for more details.

Black Eyed Peas ‘The E.N.D.’ Lands At #1 On The Billboard 200 Chart

Black Eyed Peas’ “The E.N.D.” bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 304,000 — the hip-pop act’s best sales week ever. It’s also the first No. 1 album for the group, which had previously gone as high as No. 2. Its last set, 2005’s “Monkey Business,” bowed in the runner-up slot with a then-best 291,000. It had the unfortunate luck to come out the same week as Coldplay’s “X&Y,” which kept the Peas’ at bay when it started at No. 1 with 737,000. -via Billboard.com

Coldplay star Chris Martin said he would consider making a solo album only if he split with wife Gwyneth Paltrow and “desperately” needed money

Posted by Sam on 10th June 2009 in Album, Album Release, Chris Brown, Coldplay

Coldplay star Chris Martin said he would consider making a solo album only if he split with wife Gwyneth Paltrow and “desperately” needed money.

Chris, 33, is married to Hollywood actress Gwyneth, 36, and said he is not planning a solo album any time soon.

He said: “It would probably mean I’ve been dumped by my wife and I desperately need the money.

“Hell would not only have to freeze over but be skated over and completely closed up.

“The Pope would have to declare it didn’t even exist. I cannot think of anything worse.”

Chris and the rest of the band are currently touring the world and have been watching DVD boxsets of hit US TV series The Wire while away from home.

Chris said: “The main thing I do on tour is write, then go watch The Wire.”

Dave Matthews Band Release Big Whiskey

Posted by Sam on 5th June 2009 in Album, Dave Matthews Band, Track Listing

Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, the Dave Matthews Band’s first studio album in four years, will be released on June 2nd by RCA Records. On Friday, June 5th, Dave Matthews Band will perform on NBC’s “TODAY” show on Rockefeller Plaza, marking the first morning television appearance in the band’s career.

With its celebratory spirit and lyrical ruminations on fragile mortality, the album pays tribute to saxophonist LeRoi Moore, the band’s fallen partner. Moore passed away in the summer of 2008 while the group was on tour and midway through making the album. “When Roi died, it shook the whole band and left us saying, ‘What do we do now?’” recalls Matthews. “We knew that first of all, we had to finish this record that he was already in love with. So all of us went back in with the attitude ‘We can’t mess around with this one, because this one is an ode.”

When the remaining members regrouped in a New Orleans, LA studio in early 2009 to complete the album, they found they were able to integrate much of the material Moore had recorded during their 2008 sessions in Charlottesville, VA and Seattle, WA. “It’s so powerful to have Roi here with us for one last time on an album,” says violin player Boyd Tinsley. Guitarist Tim Reynolds, trumpeter Rashawn Ross and saxophonist Jeff Coffin also played on the album and will join the band on tour.

Produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance), Big Whiskey has been hailed by Rolling Stone as the group’s “heaviest album yet, both musically and emotionally,” which went on to note: “Throughout, Carter Beauford beats out elaborate, propulsive groves; bassist Stefan Lessard lays down Flea-style funk bass lines; violinist Boyd Tinsley plays cresting, intense runs; and Matthews mirrors Moore’s saxophone lines with scatlike singing.” Billboard, in a cover story on Dave Matthews Band, praised Big Whiskey

Matthews created all of the artwork for Big Whiskey, including the richly detailed cover illustration that puts a GrooGrux spin on New Orleans’ traditional Mardi Gras parades while evoking the joy and the sorrow expressed in the album’s songs. Matthews has designed logos and other elements in the past, but this is the first time he has created the entire packaging for a Dave Matthews Band album. For a limited time, fans can have fun unscrambling the cover at aveMatthewsBand.com.

Big Whiskey is the follow-up to 2005’s Stand Up, the fourth consecutive Dave Matthews Band studio album to enter The Billboard 200 at No. 1. It will be available in three versions: standard, deluxe (with Scenes from Big Whiskey, a documentary on the making of the album) and super-deluxe, which includes bonus tracks, a photo book and lithographs in addition to the CD and documentary. Check out www.Billboard.com for an exclusive preview of footage from Scenes from Big Whiskey.

The track listing for Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King is as follows:

    1. Grux
