Everyone has been calling Kris Allen’s victory over Adam Lambert an American Idol upset. What’s so upsetting about it? It’s not like Kris isn’t talented. But when you’ve pretty much orchestrated a finale show that showcased Adam more than Kris, it would be upsetting to you. Kris only got to perform one song with Keith Urban while Adam got to sing a medley with rock icons KISS. Heck, even Danny Gokey got to sing more songs than Kris when Danny sang a medley with Lionel Richie. Add to that, the final performance of the two before the winner was announced was with Queen. Adam’s star was made to shine brighter than Kris’ that night but I guess the producers didn’t expect a rally of fans for Kris.
Simon Cowell’s mum said the music mogul was a “difficult child” when he was younger, she has revealed.
The 49-year-old, famous for his role as a judge on The X Factor and American Idol, is featured in a new documentary called Where Did It All Go Right?
His mum Julie Cowell, 82, said: “He was a difficult child, he knew what he wanted and sent you barmy getting it. He was one of these children who made up their mind from a very early age and was very competitive as a child.”
His brother Nicholas Cowell added: “Simon once reversed into the driveway and smashed into my dad’s car breaking the glass. He picked up the glass and dropped it at the front of the house.”
He added: “He then let off the handbrake of dad’s car and rolled it up to the glass and drove off. My mum was the last person to use dad’s car, so Simon suggested Mum has left the handbrake off!
He added: “We were always in trouble, always doing something.”
The American Idol contestant seems to have come to the end of his long road. It seems that Danny Gookey will be going home after all. Even though one initial prediction by Paula Abdul saw Danny Gookey competing against Adam Lambert in the finale, it seems that he will be cashing in his chits sooner than expected. Still, he does want to show us all that he is a real man as this is what he said before the announcement that sent him home: “I think we’ve had enough suspense, enough commercials, enough fooling around, let’s just get to it.” Really profound stuff… it’s like Danny Gookey has some Scottish ancestry.
Even though Adam Lambert seems to be the favorite for the first place on American Idol, his competition is not likely to be giving up to easily. Kris Allen goes for a very bold song choice by doing Kanye West’s “Heartless”. The surprising part is that he does it only with his voice and guitar… a bold move for which he is commended by the judges… even Simon Cowell who says that with this performance, Kris Allen managed to wipe away the failure of his first song for the evening. It’s a really tough race it seems and Kris Allen has a good starting speed… especially considering that he actually made Kanye West’s music sound like real music.
The judge from American Idol recently stated that he believes that Adam Lambert is the one who will take home the trophy for the contest this season. Simon Cowell made this all so shocking statement on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Monday. The reason Simon Cowell invoked for his premonition is the fact that Adam Lambert “has got swagger”. Well, if Simon Cowell says it’s going to happen, then it’s most likely going to happen… even though it is all so unpredictable. Still, maybe the judge is a bit of a rascal and he’s using his position of a vector of opinion in order to make the whole contest a bit more… interesting. Either way, there are just a few weeks left to go.
Slash is back on the American Idol stage as he kicked off the show with an incredible group number set to Alice Cooper’s 1971 hit ‘School’s Out’. The former Guns N Roses guitarist was on lead guitar and once again, Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta dominated the vocals. Actually, you can forego the Idol hopefuls. I can listen to Slash playing his guitar all day and not get tired of it. The iconic rocker is coming out with a solo album soon. Just like Carlos Santana, he’s going to be featuring a lot of amazing singers to sing as he plays his guitar.
Of course, if the other duet from American Idol performed well due to Adam Lambert’s innate charm, this duet, formed by Kris Allen and Danny Gokey who performed Styx’s Renegade, didn’t hold out too well against the odds. Simon Cowell, as always offers the spiciest comments ever and he just resumed himself to saying that Danny Gokey was better than Kris Allen. That’s real criticism for you… right on the spot. And considering that Danny Gokey was deemed “probably safe” by Simon Cowell, it might mean that Kris Allen is in for a bit of a painful break with his rising career.
American Idol season 1 runner up Justin Guarini is a very desperate man. The has-been has recently posted a crappy song on his YouTube account with the accompanying message in the hopes of getting his tune on the soundtrack to ‘New Moon’, the second film in the ‘Twilight’ franchise. Justin wrote “Here’s a new song that I, along with two of Nashville’s finest writers- Shaye Smith and Tammy Hyler- put together expressly for the soundtrack of “New Moon”. If you like it, share it, and ask for it to be put in the new Twilight movie.” The song sucks and his desperate call for help matches the whiney sound of his voice on the song. Spare us.
American Idol judge Simon Cowell has stunned contestants by telling them: “Don’t listen to me.”
The acid-tongued judge was lost for words after two hopefuls he backed as potential winners finished bottom in US viewers’ voting.
He had lavished praise on the performances of Matt Giraud and Adam Lambert, but they were left facing elimination after votes from American viewers were added up.
And teenager Allison Iraheta, who Cowell had warned could be “in trouble” on Tuesday night’s show, sailed through to the final four.
So when host Ryan Seacrest asked if Cowell had any advice for the contestants for next week, the Brit shrugged: “I’m probably the last person to give advice at the moment.
“Don’t listen to me.”
Cowell had told Giraud his performance of My Funny Valentine was “brilliant”. But Giraud was the unlucky singer eliminated after failing to get enough support from US fans.
Matt Giraud finally got the boot from American Idol last night. That means that Allison Iraheta is still surviving amongst the guys! What’s even more surprising is that she wasn’t even on the bottom three. Don’t get me wrong, I really love her on the show but if you base it on the voting pattern, she could have easily been predicted as the one to go home. The jaw-dropping moment of the night was when Adam Lambert’s name got called as the final member of the bottom three. Ryan Seacrest did the famed splitting into groups with the last Idol to choose which group he thinks he belongs to. It was Kris and Matt on one side with Allison and Danny Gokey on the other. Adam picked Allison and Danny and that’s when Ryan dropped the bomb. Though I’m not the biggest Adam fan, Matt really ran his time out on the show.
Allison Iraheta is the last woman standing on American Idol. How much longer can she stand amongst the boys? Despite winning accolades for her voice and a stage maturity beyond her years, the 16-year old may be a long shot to reach the final based on the voting patterns. She clearly has the star potential so what’s gotten her on the bottom three more than any of her rivals? Maybe it’s just her being an awkward and goofy teenager when she’s not singing. It goes without saying that the show has really turned into something more of a popularity contest rather than a talent show. Allison may be leagues better than some of the guys but those guys bring the popularity factor several times that of Allison’s.
Simon Cowell has said he’s "so gorgeous", women can’t help falling in love with him, his ex-girlfriend Sinitta has said.
The 49-year-old judge reportedly made the claim that women watching him on his show Britain’s Got Talent couldn’t help but fall for him because he looks "gorgeous".
Sinitta said: "Simon told me he looks so gorgeous that no woman is safe from falling in love with him. He said: ‘Darling, I’d watch it with one eye closed.’"
She added to British newspaper The Sun: "He’s never short of a date but he works incredibly hard. It’s difficult to make a connection."
The third series of the British show kicks off soon and is said to feature one act who are high-kicking ninjas.
While Tuesday night’s performance show of American Idol brought about the largest amount of creativity amongst the contestants, disco night did very little in holding some people’s interests. Hit and miss disco night scored 23.2 million viewers, per preliminary Nielsen data. It was enough to thoroughly dominate the Tuesday competition but it’s actually down by around 1 million sets of eyes and ears from last week’s performance show. And that says a lot considering last week’s night at the movies was really disappointing in my opinion. They probably just hated the fact that Matt Giraud got saved. Things just get boring without that thrill of the one-time save hanging in the air.
Former American Idol champion Fantasia Barrino is set to star in her own reality TV show on VH1. She does have mortgage bills to pay after all. The series will premiere in early 2010 and will document the singer’s life as an artist and a single mother. According to Executive Vice President of Original Programming at VH1, “Her [Fantasia's] challenges from fame and her unwillingness to fail have combined to create a larger-than-life talent who appeals to music lovers around the world. So many people wanted to work with her on this, but Fantasia is now part of the VH1 family, and we’re so happy to have her.”
It’s been rumored that Simon Cowell may be leaving his seat at the American Idol judges’ table when this season wraps up after he gave an interview to UK’s Daily Mirror hinting at his departure. He said about how the schedule is getting to him because, apart from Idol, he has two British-based shows and other projects. However, the famously bitter judge says he still loves doing the show and he’ll be staying put for at least another year, as his contract requires. Simon spoke to the Associated Press saying he is considering all options for his future and has yet to come to a decision about how he might trim his work load.
Even though she didn’t stand out too much in the last week, it looks like Allison Iraheta is getting ready for the big push from now on. Her rendition of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” didn’t get her better praises than the night’s star, Adam Lambert, but Allison Iraheta probably ensured herself a cozy and safe place from which she will probably strike later on. American Idol judge Simon Cowell said this about Allison Iraheta’s performance: “We’ve just got to sort you out and make you a bit more likable.” Spoken like a true man of the industry which he so proudly serves and develops!
American Idol has seen former contestants return to the stage every results night this year. We’ve seen Kelly Clarkson on week one, Carrie Underwood on week two, Ruben Studdard on week three and most recently, David Cook this past week. The latest winner took a break from his nationwide tour to perform live on stage last Wednesday. It was a pretty hectic week for David. His Idol performance was sandwiched between two stops on his Declaration Tour, held in Southern Connecticut State University and Wilmington University in North Carolina, respectively. That’s two coast-to-coast flights mind you. His Idol performance also coincides with the release of his latest single ‘Come Back to Me’.
The American Idol contestant was bailed out of the contest today after her rendition of Bob Marley’s “Turn Your Lights Down Low”. Of course, Simon Cowell didn’t lose the opportunity to spit out one of his earth-shattering comments in regards to Megan Joy’s leaving: “When you said that you don’t care, nor do we. I’m not going to even pretend we’re going to contemplate saving you.” Boy, does daddy-Cowell know how to say them or not? Anyway, Megan Joy’s attitude isn’t a whole lot better. Well, if she doesn’t care, then this probably won’t affect her too much… or us, for that matter. The show must go on… or so the legends say.
The American Idol contestant came back again in full force and this time he gave up the soft side of his performances and went for something a little more exciting: Wild Cherry’s “Play that funky music” is what got Adam Lambert second place in the top nine for the beginning of this week. Simon Cowell was sensibly impressed with Adam Lambert’s performance since he said: “At least we get rid of some of this karaoke nonsense we’ve seen tonight.” Originality seems to have won Adam Lambert a good spot last night so now it’s a duel between him and Kris Allen for the first place… a regular cat fight, one would dare say.
Very few people were stellar during last week’s showing of American Idol doing country but what do you think about this week being about Motown? The Idols were treated to spending time with mentors Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson before taking the stage. Matt Giraud sang Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get It On’. Kris Allen sang ‘How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)’. Scott MacIntyre sang ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’. Megan Joy sang ‘For Once in My Life’. Anoop Desai sang ‘Ooh Baby Baby’. Michael Sarver sang ‘Ain’t Too Proud to Beg’. Lil Rounds sang ‘Heat Wave’. Adam Lambert sang ‘Tracks of My Tears’. Danny Gokey sang ‘Get Ready’. And finally, Allison Iraheta sang ‘Papa Was a Rolling Stone’.
