Rihanna Takes a Bow

Apart from cleaning house at the 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards which was held at the Chum/City Building on Sunday in Toronto, Canada, Rihanna also performed her latest single ‘Take a Bow’. The Barbadian babe changed into a black ruffled top and black leather lace-up boots before her performance which marked the first time the 20-year old performed her song on TV. It was a pretty eventful night for her after she took home two awards out of the two she was nominated for. And still I have to ask – where was her boy toy that night? Or were they trying to be coy again?

Fergie Kicks Off Grammy’s

Fergie Kicks Off Grammy’s

Early Thursday morning, Black Eyed Peas front woman Fergie was on hand to announce the nominations for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards. Despite being a big favorite to score a lot of nods, the ‘Fergalicious’ singer only got one nomination for herself in the category of Best Female Pop Vocal.Despite the disappointing number, Fergie still helped kick off the Grammy’s celebration with a People party at the Avalon Hollywood nightclub on Thursday in Hollywood. I bet she’s saying that she already has 3 Grammy’s anyway so she still has reason to party. And let’s not forget that her album has 5 hit singles off of it. That’s something!

Jonas Brother Blog

Jonas Brother Blog

The Jonas Brothers took to the stage at the 2007 American Music Awards where Joe took a spill right at the top of their performance. Joe put up a blog about it recently and talked about what went on through the whole thing.

He said that after he fell, he saw the smiling faces of the fans and knew that he had to get up and go on with the show. Joe had so much fun performing that he didn’t even notice that he was bleeding until someone backstage pointed it out to him. And it seems that he got cut not only on his hands but on his leg too.

Does he feel no pain or what?

50 Weasels Way Out of Retirement

50 Weasels Way Out of Retirement

Rap star 50 Cent said that if he didn’t beat Kanye West in terms of record sales when their new releases came head to head, he would retire. Well, Kanye beat him and there’s still no retirement announcement from 50.

It seems that 50 found a way around his retirement saying to Gatecrasher that his album “was No. 1 internationally the week it came out. It was the No. 1 European album!” Apart from teaching us how to go back on our word, 50 also teaches us a good geography lesson.

But if you want to get technical, he does have a point. He did beat Kanye to the top spot on the album and singles chart in Europe.

Kanye Gives Out Award

kanye-west.jpg
BET’s Hip Hop Awards went down in Atlanta over the weekend and Kanye West won ‘Best Hip Hop Video’. Now, for the guy who’s been whining about not getting any awards from MTV, why would he even think of trying to give his BET award away?!

Kanye suddenly gets a piece of humble pie because after he accepted the award for ‘Stronger’ he tried to give it away to his competitors saying that UGK’s song ‘International Players’ which featured OutKast was more deserving. He even handed the award over to Big Boi but Big Boi handed it right back, he has enough awards without Kanye’s grubby fingerprints over them.

Love him or hate him he is still rocking the world. MTV just announced its MTV Europe Music Awards nominations and Justin Timberlake is on top. The funny thing is he ruled last years awards and chances are he is going to rule this years’ as well. I think this guy is a great performer and his fan following is enormous all over the world. And the fact is there for all to see that year after year at all the top awards ceremonies Justin Timberlake’s name features on top of the list most of the times and that only goes to prove that he is today one of the top most singer in the world and his fans are spread for America to Europe to the far east of Asia. He is a winner, I wish he always remains a winner; he has got style, charisma and charm to woo the crowds anywhere he goes.

Kanye is Still Bitter

kanye-west.jpg
Several days have passed since the 2007 MTV VMAs but Kanye West is still bitter. And he’s not letting anyone leave without them knowing about it. Not even Justin Timberlake fans.

Kanye made a surprise appearance at the Emmy’s right before heading over to Justin’s show at the Staples Center in LA. He was even wearing the same suit. He also joined Justin on stage and rocked out an amazing rendition of ‘Stronger’. Kanye then busted out with the freestyle when he told the crowd “Hey yo, MTV — I can’t trust ‘em.”

He may be a whiner but the guy can perform.

Justin Timberlake Postpones Tour Dates

justin-timberlake-tour.jpg

Justin Timberlake fans in Sacramento and San Jose will have to wait a bit longer to get “Lovestoned.”Justin’s “FutureSex/LoveShow” concerts scheduled for last night and tomorrow in the California cities have been postponed, due to vocal strain suffered by the “SexyBack” singer.

A rep for Timberlake issued a statement to Access Hollywood assuring fans that the shows will go on…and soon:

“Tour promoter, AEG Live, has rescheduled Justin Timberlake’s concerts in Sacramento and San Jose. The shows were rescheduled following a doctor mandated several day vocal rest prescribed to the artist to repair vocal strain inflicted during his MTV VMA performance and months of rigorous touring.

The FutureSex/LoveShows will go on. The Sacramento concert, originally scheduled for Monday, September 10th, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 25th and the San Jose concert, originally scheduled for Wednesday, September 12th, has been moved to Sunday, September 23rd.

Fans should retain their tickets as they will be honored at the rescheduled concerts.”Justin was a major presence at Sunday’s Video Music Awards, winning multiple trophies and performing both at his party suite with Timbaland and 50 Cent, as well in the show’s big closing performance.

He has been on the “FutureSex/LoveShow” tour since January, performing over 50 shows in the U.S. and Canada, along with over 40 dates throughout Europe. He is currently in the midst of the second leg of his U.S. tour before moving on to dates in Australia and New Zealand next month.

The Klaxons win UK Mercury Prize

Posted by Sam on 5th September 2007 in Award, Music, Music Bands, Photography, Singers

the-klaxons.jpg

Dance punk group the Klaxons beat out British pop powerhouse Arctic Monkeys and troubled diva Amy Winehouse to win Britain’s Mercury Prize on Tuesday for their debut album, “Myths of the Near Future.”

The Klaxons were awarded the prestigious $40,000 Nationwide Mercury Prize by a panel of judges who called their sound an “ecstatic musical adventure.”

Band member Jaime Reynolds, who was nursing a broken leg and ankle after diving off a stage in France, was overcome with emotion after the win.

“I’ve just been sitting here having the worst two hours of my entire life,” Reynolds said. “It just means so much to us.”

Judges of the prize, which has honored the best album of the year by a British or Irish band since 1992, have a reputation for overlooking populist choices in favor of obscure artists. The honor is awarded on the basis of innovation, rather than commercial sales.

This year’s shortlist was a typically eclectic mix, including nominees ranging from classical quintet Basquiat Strings to post-punk band the Young Knives.

Retro-soul singer Winehouse, whose success has been overshadowed by concerns over her well-being, was also in the running, and ended a run of cancellations by appearing at the ceremony.

The star drew a round of applause as she stepped to the stage to perform her new track, “Love Is a Losing Game.”

Previous winners include the Arctic Monkeys, London rapper Dizzee Rascal, Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand and Antony and the Johnsons, fronted by British-born but U.S.-raised Antony Hegarsty.

To Vegas They Go

mtv.jpg

MTV may have lost Lily Allen’s performance due to her visa issues but that wouldn’t stop the fun from spreading. MTV has announced a whole new slew of additional performer’s for this year’s Video Music Awards which would air on September 9.

Added to the existing line up of Timbaland, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, Chris Brown, Amy Winehouse, The Foo Fighters and Rihanna are Nelly Furtado, Gym Class Heroes, Lil’ Wayne, T-Pain, Cee-Lo and Daniel Merriweather.

Timbaland serves not only as a performer but also as the ‘maestro’ in charge of creating show-stopping artist collaborations. With the list that MTV has, collaborations will no doubt be just that.
