Lady Gaga Makes History

Posted by Sam on 15th July 2009 in Billboard, Hit Song, Lady GaGa

Lady Gaga is making a big solid mark in music history as the singer is officially the third artist in history to have three number 1 songs from a debut album on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40. The only other artists to have accomplished this feat have been Ace of Base and Avril Lavigne. I think it would be great if Lady Gaga could surpass those artists and get four number 1 songs on the chart. And with her career going mighty nicely, I don’t think that’s a feat that’s too far off from getting achieved. I hope she does it.

Coldplay’s legal issues

Posted by Sam on 11th February 2009 in Coldplay, Hit Song, Music Bands

The British rock band is having a bit of trouble legally since Joe Satriani has stated that their song “Viva la Vida” is based on one of his own creations, “If I could fly”, and has hired a team of legal representatives to present Coldplay with lawsuit papers at the Grammys. Coldplay’s drummer, Will Champion, said: “It’s so far-fetched and ridiculous. But that’s about all we can say at the moment. We’re waiting to see what’s happening but it’s frustrating and annoying and totally unfounded.” What perplexes me is the following: are Coldplay really that good that they can copy something from Joe Satriani?

Kelly Clarkson Breaks Record

Posted by Sam on 3rd February 2009 in Billboard, Hit Song, Kelly Clarkson, Top Music Chart

Women are totally ruling the music industry this year! Kelly Clarkson has made history on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 with her new single becoming the largest jump to the top spot in the chart’s 50-year history. The original American Idol’s ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’ went from number 97 to number 1 after selling over 280,000 downloads on its first week of release in the US. This is the second time she has set this record jump to number 1. Back in October 2002, Kelly’s victory song ‘A Moment Like This’ went from number 52 to number 1. Kelly just snatched back her title from its latest holder Britney Spears. Brit’s ‘Womanizer’ went from number 96 to number 1 last year.

Coldplay Responds to Alleged Plagiarism

Posted by Sam on 15th December 2008 in Coldplay, Hit Song

Coldplay has responded to the accusations of rock guitar icon Joe Satriani that the UK band ripped him off with their hit single ‘Viva La Vida’. The band released a statement on their website saying “With the greatest possible respect to Joe Satriani, we have now unfortunately found it necessary to respond publicly to his allegations. If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him. Joe Satriani is a great musician, but he did not write the song Viva La Vida. We respectfully ask him to accept our assurances of this and wish him well with all future endeavours.”

Britney Spears Song is not Adnan

Posted by Sam on 30th November 2008 in Britney Spears, Hit Song

It looks like Us Weekly got it all wrong because the song ‘Mmm Papi’ which comes off of Britney Spears’ new album wasn’t inspired by or written for her former sleazebag of a paparazzi boyfriend Adnan Ghalib. Nicole Morier who co-wrote the song with Britney said in a statement “I never said that to the US Weekly! The song is definitely not about Adnan and in the whole time I worked with her last spring and summer I never once saw that guy. We strictly wrote the song for fun. the Mmm Papi part came out of Mmm Papa Luv U and I came up with it because the track was a fun up beat track and we wanted to do something crazy like mmmpapamowow.”

“The release of Chinese Democracy marks a historic moment in rock ‘n’ roll,” said Irving Azoff and Andy Gould, Guns N’ Roses’ co-managers, “and we’re launching with a monumental campaign that matches the groundbreaking sound of the album itself. Rihanna performed her smash hit single ‘Umbrella’ with Jay-Z at the 3rd Annual THISDAY Fashion and Musical Festival in Abuja, Nigeria on Friday. This year’s festival, which is tagged ‘Africa Rising: To Celebrate the Best and Brightest of Emerging New Africa’, was designed o revolutionize global perspectives on African issues. The Veronicas new single “Untouched”

Posted by Sam on 5th April 2008 in Hit Song, Music Bands, Music Video, New Single, Veronicas, YouTube

Most young bands today can’t say they have performed together for 18 years, but sisters Lisa and Jessica of The Veronicas have done just that. The vocal chemistry that has evolved from singing together from the age of five is showcased in their dramatic single, “Untouched” which pairs intense strings with an electro-dance beat. The emotional ferocity of the single has also found its way into the video for “Untouched” with a cinematic elegance that not only compliments but magnifies the power behind The Veronicas’ vocals.

Kasabian reveal concept album

kasabian-band.jpg

Speaking exclusively, Kasabian’s Serge Pizzorno has revealed the concept behind their new album, which he hopes to be ready for September release.

The follow-up to 2006’s “call to arms” album ‘Empire’ will be a concept album as well, with guitarist Serge revealing: “In a way it’s a concept album, like a soundtrack to some mad film. It’s like a really good road movie, yeah a road movie…that’s what I’d say.”

As for the style? It seems getting their own recording studio has made a big difference.

“We built our own studio which has freed us up massively,” he explained. “We’ve really been experimenting on this album. The first three tracks we’ve done are twenty minutes long! Music’s stuck in a reality at the moment and we’re going the other way, back into experimentation without structure which is hypnotic and sends you into a trance. It’s very psychedelic, real head music that bends you around.”

He also described two stand out tracks, telling us: “My two favourite tunes so far are ‘Take Aim’ and ‘Where’s All The Love Go’. ‘Take Aim’ is like a mad Latin folk tune but there’s a bit of Dr Dre in there too. So it’s got a hip hop flavour with a folk edge – it’s pretty wild!”

Janet Jackson Blames the Music

Janet Jackson has a new album coming out soon and it’s poised to impact in a big way. However, if you go back in time, you can’t say so much about her last two albums. The singer recently spoke candidly about why she thinks her last two albums failed to sky rocket saying “I think it was the music. The albums weren’t right.” Okay. At least she didn’t blame the Super Bowl like what her main squeeze Jermaine Dupri likes to do. Well actually, he likes to blame Justin Timberlake but the blame for the Super Bowl is in there somewhere.

Justin Timberlake and Madonna Save the World

Posted by Sam on 11th February 2008 in Hit Song, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Music Video, Song Leaked, Songs, Timbaland

justin-timberlake-madonna.jpg
A 17-second clip of the upcoming Madonna and Justin Timberlake song has been released. It’s the same song for which the two filmed a video for. The new track is called ‘4 Seconds to Save the World’. It was produced by hit maker Timbaland and Justin himself.

It looks like it’s all systems go for the promotion of the song. I personally haven’t heard it and am quite curious as to what it’s about. The title is catchy though. I wonder if Madonna is preaching something about Raising Malawi anywhere on it. And I wonder if all her new songs would sound like anything JT and Timbaland have done before.

Jonas Brothers’ New Video

Jonas Brothers’ New Video

The Jonas Brothers have come out with a follow-up video to their smash hit ‘SOS’. The video is for their single ‘When You Look Me in the Eyes’. It’s the third release from their self-titled album and it touches on the three teenage boys’ dramatic and softer side.

The video has a pretty simple concept. Actually, it just shows black and white video footage of the band of brothers on the road, their concert tour, backstage interviews and other miscellaneous videos. I guess they’re too busy making surprise appearances at future concert venues to make an actual video for the song.
