The BPI, the UK record labels’ body, today announced the exciting news that the mighty U2, one of the world’s biggest bands, will perform their brand new single ‘Get On Your Boots’ live at The BRIT Awards 2009 with MasterCard. This highly anticipated annual event takes place on Wednesday 18 February at London’s Earls Court.

This year’s BRIT Awards, the premiere event in the British music calendar, is shaping up to be one of the strongest yet, with U2 confirmed, Pet Shop Boys being honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award and further intriguing live performances to be announced over the coming weeks. The show will be a spectacular night of great music, featuring and honoring the hottest music talent and thrilling the eleven thousand audience at Earls Court, as well as making it a must tune-in for the millions watching The BRITs live on ITV1.

Ged Doherty, Chairman of The BRITs Committee said, “We’re thrilled to be able to confirm that U2 have chosen The BRITs for their first global TV performance on their new album. Their addition to the line-up for this year’s show makes it possibly the best we have ever had. This cements The BRITs as one of the biggest TV events in the world.”

Formed in 1976, U2 consists of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jnr. Over their three-decade career the band have sold over 140 million albums worldwide – with multiple gold, platinum and diamond certifications, and have amassed more awards than any other band. They have been awarded seven coveted BRIT Awards including five acclaimed Best International Group awards, Best Live Act and the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award in 2001.

With several chart topping albums under their belt, U2 will release their forthcoming album ‘No Line on the Horizon’ – tipped as their best to date – this spring and join the prestigious line up at The BRIT Awards 2009 with MasterCard ceremony at Earls Court, London on Wednesday 18 February.

No Tour for Scarlett Johansson

Last month, Scarlett Johansson debuted her music video for her first single ‘Falling Down’. Earlier this month, she performed her song live. Let me tell you, signing her to a record deal was a big mistake. Luckily for us, we don’t have to be subjected to her going on tour any time soon. Her label said that her singing is purely a hobby and that she won’t be hitting the road in support of her new album. Apparently, she was just asked to record an album full of Tom Waits covers. In response to that, she recently said in an interview “I thought of all of my friends who were struggling musicians (who) would kill for this opportunity, so I couldn’t really pass it up.” I hope she sticks to acting in the future.

Director Madonna

Posted by Sam on 4th January 2008 in Live Music, Madonna, Movies, Rumor, Singers

Director Madonna

Madonna is set to make her official debut as a director soon. It has just been announced that the Queen of Pop’s film ‘Filth & Wisdom’ is going to make its world premiere this February at the Berlin Film Festival. The movie is “Described as a comedy/drama/musical/romance, the story features a Russian immigrant, ballet school, lap dancing, cultural revolution, poetry, night club, punk rock band, book writer, dominatrix and gypsy. The Gypsy punk band that appears in the film is portrayed by real-life Gypsy punk band, Gogol Bordello, who also contributed three songs to the film’s soundtrack. The band’s lead singer, Eugene Hütz, portrays the main character — a character with a philosophical attitude towards life. Madonna allowed additional dialogue written by Eugene himself to be included in the film. Additionally, Gogol Bordello performed ‘La Isla Bonita’ with Madonna at the 2007 Live Earth benefit concert in London, United Kingdom.”

Fergie is a Bond Girl

Posted by Sam on 5th December 2007 in Fergie, Live Music, Music, Music Artist, Music in Film, Performance, Pop Music, Singers, Songs

Fergie is a Bond Girl

Fergie isn’t one to hide her gorgeous body and being at the ‘Movies Rock: A Celebration of Music in Film’ event held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday was not the place to start hiding it. She took to the carpet and the stage is hip-hugging outfits.

Fergie and Jennifer Hudson got to make like Bond girls when they performed rousing renditions of ‘Live and Let Die’ and ‘Goldfinger’ from the James Bond films. Fergie’s also known for her accessories so it’s clear why she went with the Bond theme by having a bejeweled gun decoration on her microphone stand.

True Fans Faint – Victoria Beckham

True Fans Faint - Victoria Beckham

Apparently, according to Posh Spice Victoria Beckham, you can only be a true fan if you cry, or even better, pass out. In a video that was filmed just after her arrival in Japan to begin the Spice Girls reunion world tour; she says “When the paramedics are called I think that is a good sign, it shows real determination as a fan.”

The video has been released on her website for those that don’t believe me – check it out for yourselves.

So, if you are made of stronger stuff that passing out because you have met your idol, or crying because you are on the same planet as someone famous; then I am sorry but you do not class as a dedicated fan and you may as well give up now.

Really Victoria, did anyone ever tell you to think before you speak?

COHEED AND CAMBRIA TO HIT THE ROAD SUPPORTING LINKIN PARK

COHEED AND CAMBRIA Tour

Columbia Records is proud to announce that Coheed and Cambria will be supporting Linkin Park on all dates of their upcoming national tour. The tour goes from February 12 to March 10 and will be hitting 19 cities, including Madison Square Garden in New York. The dates come on the heels of Coheed’s successful sold-out 25-date national headlining tour that wrapped at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom on November 29, 2007.

In their live review of the Los Angeles show at The Wiltern, the “LA Times” raved:

“Self-indulgence is frequently seen as a crime in modern rock music, but without it there would have been no Led Zeppelin or ‘Sgt. Pepper,’ no Ziggy Stardust or System of a Down. Overreaching sometimes pays off. And few young bands reach further than the prog-metal act Coheed and Cambria, for whom the extremes of time and space hardly seem to be enough,” and concluded that the band had “epic sound and fury.”

Coheed are touring to support their fourth record, “No World for Tomorrow,” which debuted at #6 on the Billboard top 200, giving the band their highest debut in their career as well as its highest chart position. Radio continues to show huge support across the country for the album’s first single, “The Running Free” (charting on both Alternative and Active charts) while critical response to the album has been fantastic. Besides being highlighted in fall preview features in “New York” magazine, “USA Today” and the “New

York Times,” “Blender” magazine said that with the release of the new record, “Coheed have found their sweet spot.” David Fricke in “Rolling Stone” noted the band’s “impressive resolution in the decisive pop arc of the mutating riffs and slippery time signatures,” and concluded, “there is plenty worthy of rewind here.” “Revolver” gave the record four stars in their lead review and said that, “this record feels like the beginning of something new,” as it marks Coheed’s “ascent from the geek-metal underground to the heavy-music mainstream.”

Coheed and Cambria (Sanchez – vocals, guitar; Travis Stever – guitar; Mic Todd – bass) spent the first half of 2007 working on “No World for Tomorrow” in Los Angeles with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Stone Sour) and mixer Randy Staub (Metallica, Nickelback). Coheed recruited Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters to play drums on the record, while ex-Dillinger Escape Plan drummer Chris Pennie is now a permanent fixture in the band and has taken their live shows to new heights.

“No World For Tomorrow” has sold over 100,000 copies in four weeks, and the Linkin Park dates mark the first time the band has played in arenas.

The tour dates are as follows:

Slaves To Gravity – The Purple Turtle

Slaves To Gravity - The Purple TurtleSlaves To Gravity - The Purple Turtle

It was a particularly freezing cold November night in Camden and up and coming London rockers Slaves To Gravity were playing the home leg of their current UK tour.
The 4 piece looked fresh faced and enthusiastic to be playing in their home town and as it was still early days in the tour exhaustion obviously was a long way off yet. The band weren’t the only ones ready to play either. The venue was at least half full when STG came on stage and it was easy to see those watching were friends and followers. They were singing every word and dancing to the sexy Rock and Roll this band produce.
Judging by the crowd Slaves To Gravity seemingly appeal to the lovers of the smooth and sexy. The tight trousers, the big hair, the leather and all that comes with it. Their music also oozes with sex appeal, its dirty, skin-tight and clad with pure rock and roll aggression.
