Introducing Irish Rocker Lesley Roy

Meet Lesley Roy – a 21 year old singer/ songwriter/ guitarist hailing from Balbriggan, Ireland. The Irish rocker discovered her passion for music at a young age, learning to play trumpet, saxophone and guitar all by age ten. Further inspired by her mother’s musical background, she began writing songs at fourteen and was well on the way to developing her advanced songwriting abilities.

Roy left the small suburb of Dublin after getting discovered by Jive Records and headed to New York City to begin crafting her album. She worked with plenty of industry heavyweights on the debut effort including Dr. Luke (Kelly Clarkson, Sugababes) and Desmond Child (Bon Jovi, Aerosmith). Her first single, “I’m Gone, I’m Going” was produced by Max Martin (Britney Spears, NSYNC) who also exec produced the album. With an array of supercharged guitar hooks and irresistible vocal melodies, “I’m Gone, I’m Going” will appeal to fans of Paramore, Kelly Clarkson, and more.

About her debut album, Roy says, “there are a couple of themes that run through the album, evolving around the many different aspects in relationships, whether it is loss of love, not wanting to be in love, trying to help a friend through their own issues…unrequited love and the happiness and excitement of being in love.” The self-proclaimed shy girl who sites Melissa Etheridge and U2 among her influences strives to connect with her fans through her painfully honest lyrics and cannot wait to rock out with her new material on stage.

New Song – Ray J

New Song - Ray J

Any song that has lyrics like “make that pussy talk” is sure to be a song that people would make their sex tapes to. Sex tape star Ray J should know. Brandy’s little brother does more than sex tapes nowadays as he also makes some very raunchy jams. It looks like he’s trying hard to be his generation’s R. Kelly. Let’s just hope it ends with the music and doesn’t go into pedophilia.

Ray J’s new single is called ‘Sexy Can I’ and it features Yung Berg. It’s all about taking pictures and making pussy talk. It’s really good. And perfect for all your sex tape endeavors.

Umbrella Covers – Rihanna

Umbrella Covers - Rihanna

Rihanna’s hit single ‘Umbrella’ has been the biggest single of the year which merited a lot of covers from different artists representing different genres. It’s actually the most covered single of 2007. It’s so big that even Rihanna has done her own cover of her own song!

Rihanna actually went back in to the studio and recorded an amazing acoustic version of the song. Her acoustic version features a new arrangement and even a few added lyrics. It’s incredible! Maybe this would be the end of the ‘Umbrella’ covers. It’s already gone back to where it all started – Rihanna herself.

Classic Crime – Seattle Sessions

Classic Crime - Seattle Sessions

Stripping away the glossy production and grandiose dynamics that sent their debut album Albatross soaring, Classic Crime get back to basics with the Seattle Sessions. If anything, the stripped back arrangements and rawness of the sound feeds the immediacy and intensity of Crime’s music, further accentuating the drama inherent in the lyrics and Matt MacDonald’s vocals. And drama washes across this set, themed around touring’s heavy toll. “I’m so lost,” MacDonald cries out on “Far from Home,” the album’s emotional denouement, as the band struggles to stay afloat under waves of homesickness. The C&W tinged “Drink in My Hand” is a romantic number intercut with road angst, with MacDonald lamenting, “I am almost nowhere, and I’m getting there fast. Bitterness spills over the heavy hitting “Wake Up (Ship Wreck),” and drips across the folky “The Test,” as the band sarcastically raise a glass to “the promise of glamorous living.” It feels so ludicrous the pursuit of this dream, we thought we’d be there long ago,” perfectly sums up the mood of the set and band itself. But they’re not the only ones far from home and fearful of the future, with the evocative “When the Time Comes” drawing veiled references to Iraq and Afghanistan. Filled with impassioned songs, each beautifully delivered, and backed by superb guitar work and strong rhythms, this sublime set is very different from Crime’s electric work, but just as magnificent.

Isn’t it amazing when you don’t have to follow anyone’s rules except your own? That’s exactly what Radiohead is doing.

Now that the band is no longer signed to a major record label, they are choosing to give away copies of their new album, ‘In Rainbows’ which would be out next week. The band members are letting fans choose to pay as much or as little as 90 cents, the credit card processing fee to download the album from their site.

But if you’re a die-hard fans, pay something around $80. That’s the price of the new Radiohead box-set which includes the new album on CD, 2 vinyl records, another CD with additional songs, photos, artwork and lyrics.

Justin Timberlake has won an Emmy for his song “Dick In A Box.”

The song won the prize for Best Original Music and Lyrics for the program Saturday Night Live at the 59th Creative Arts Emmy Awards on the September 8 in Los Angeles.justin-timberlake-photo.jpg

Timberlake teamed up with comic Andy Samberg to make the song, which spoofed early-’90s R&B/pop acts like Color Me Badd.

Samberg told the audience : “Justin, if you’re out there, congrats to you, kid.”

The video beat two songs from a musical version of Scrubs to win the award.

Samberg said : “I think it’s safe to say that when we first set out to make this song, we were all thinking, ‘Emmy!’

“The other thing we were thinking was, ‘Hey! There’s this young up-and-comer, Justin Timberlake, who is clearly very talented and could really use a break.”

Although Timberlake was not present at the ceremony Samberg said he would be willing to perform the song with the singer at the main Primetime Emmys ceremony, to be held in Los Angeles on September 16.

Malaysia Not Entirely Sweet on Stefani

stefani_gwen.jpg

Gwen Stefani apparently isn’t everyone’s favorite girl in Malaysia. A Muslim students group that objects to the pop star’s sexy style and come-hither lyrics is pushing to have Stefani’s first-ever concert in Kuala Lumpur scrapped before the spotlights have a chance to shine. “Her video clips promoting the event are too obscene,” Mohamad Hilmi Ramli, president of the National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students has said. “We want the organizers to cancel the concert, failing which we will ask the authorities to intervene.” Well most Muslims are very strict about what they like and what they do not want to allow happening in their country, despite Malaysia being a rapidly developing economy and being a leading tourist destination in Asia, perhaps it’s not yet willing to open up so much to international performance by western artist. She is currently playing in Australia and will have to complete the Asian leg of tour without a performance in Kuala Lumpur.

Spice Girls getting back with a new single

The pop group is considering their comeback with the launch of a song called “Woman”.
The song was written when Gerri Halliwel left the group in 1999 but has been updated in time for a Christmas release.
A source told Britain’s The People newspaper: “It is a very catchy pop tune so they thought it would be great to use it now. But they have updated it, with Geri adding her vocals.”
Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm, and Melanie Brown originally wrote the song with Richard Stannard and Matt Rowe.
Gerri and Emma were recently spotted going to Stannard’s home to talk with him how to “revamp” the song.
The updated lyrics are said to reflect how the girls have matured since the band split in 2000.
Another thing the girls are considering to do is the release of greatest hits album on November 5.
An interesting rumor that is spreading is that the girls have been banned to get pregnant during their reunion. Since their 90s Spice Girls heyday, Victoria, Mel B, and Geri have all become mothers.
The five-piece band have been issued a strict set of rules by their manager Simon Fuller to ensure their lucrative comeback goes as smoothly as possible.
The news will come as a blow to Victoria – who has three sons with soccer star husband David – who has spoken of her desire to have a daughter.
Another rule prohibits “talking about money that you will potentially earn from the reunion”, or “confirming or denying any rumors until everything is in place.”
The music mogul writes at the end of his list published in Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “I will make this work for you all, none of you realize how amazing you were and still are. It’s good to be back… Simon.”

Winehouse splurges on honeymoon

Amy Winehouse has reportedly spent almost $20,000 on a three-day honeymoon with new husband Blake Fielder-Civil.
The British singer forked out a small fortune at a luxury Miami hotel, where the newlyweds splashed out on vintage champagne and room service.
A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: “Amy told Blake that she’d spare no expense” – she’s working so hard now that they tried to cram two weeks’ worth of fun into two days. They locked themselves in and wouldn’t even leave to let the chambermaids change the linen! Every few hours, they’d call and ask for bubbly and occasionally French fries.
The couple’s $5,000-a-night suite at the luxury Shore Club hotel boasts its own pool and private masseuse service. Amy’s room service bill for the three-night stay totaled $2,000.
Petite Amy, 23, tied the knot with 24-year-old Blake on Friday (May 18, 2007) at the Miami-Dada County marriage license bureau – just two weeks after he proposed.
Their whirlwind marriage stunned Amy’s friends and relatives, as she had recently broken-up with her chef lover Alex Claire.
The “Rehab” singer dated Blake in the past but the relationship ended bitterly after he allegedly cheated on her.
Heartbroken Amy, who has Blake’s name tattooed on her left breast, said the experience inspired the angst-ridden lyrics on her “Back To Black” album and contributed to her wild behavior and weight loss at the time.

Mel B’s New Romance

Posted by Sam on 18th May 2007 in LOVE, Life, Lyrics, Music, Rumor

006-mel-b.jpg

We all know that Mel B. (former Spice Girls member) seemed devastated when she was dumped by Eddie Murphy. It all came at a bad time as the singer was pregnant with his baby (that is what she claims, there is still no proof of that). It seems that the sun is starting to shine again in her life. Mel B was seen enjoying a new romance with Stephen Belafonte (producer of “Thank You for Not Smoking”). The couple was seen in a Los Angeles park with a little girl by their side. It seems she was his daughter and they were also spotted partying at Hyde nightclub on Monday. While Heaven would be the right word to describe how she sees the relationship, the problems with Eddie Murphy might become hell. The “Beverly Hills” actor is refusing to take parental tests and this means Mel B will take him to court and we will surely find out if he is the father or not. I am curious because his reaction seems very strange. As far as it was reported it seems that he wanted the baby so it might turn out that Justin Timberlake’s “What goes around comes back around” lyrics might become a reality in this case.

Courtney Love Sells Kurt Cobain’s Stuff

It sure smells like teen spirit around Courtney Love or maybe she just really want to move on. It seems like the former wife of Kurt Cobain will sell his belongings after 13 years passed since the Nirvana lead singer died. It does look like a good move and maybe it is time to move on. All of Love’s friends support the idea and charity will also have a lot to gain from the auction that will sell Kurt’s stuff including original lyrics to “Teen Spirit”, sweaters, a guitar and more. The only thing that will probably not be sold is Cobain’s pajamas, which Courtney admitted she still wears when going to bed.

In another piece of news, she will also release a new album called “Nobody’s Daughter”. It seems it will be inspired by former relationships she had with superstars like Trent Reznor, Billy Corgan, Edward Norton and Kurt Cobain. Sadly whenever I hear of Kurt the only things that really come to mind are the lyrics to “Lake of Fire” (“Where the bad folks go when they die? – They don’t go to Heaven where the angels fly – They go to a lake of fire and fry – See them again till the fourth of July”) and keep wondering how music industry would have been if he had continued living. Courtney has all the right to move on and I am glad that she is finally going to do this or at least attempt it.

Beatles’ Ballads to the Highest Bidder

julianlennon.jpg

Julian Lennon is selling out, selling out his father’s song lyrics to be specific.
A financial stake in some of John Lennon’s compositions has been sold
off to Primary Wave Music Publishing. Little Julian who is John’s oldest son
and a songwriter himself, says he’s doing it to further his own career. Well, duh.
On the one hand the sale will make him some serious cash. On the other hand, Julian is getting all
sorts of publicity from forking over the priceless works of his father. In other words, he gets money and fame, and
he doesn’t have to do a single thing.

I am less irritated at the prospect of the
sale then I am at his smugness. Maybe
the sale will mean the public will have access to more of Lennon’s songs, and
that is a great thing. Art is meant to
be experienced, and songs do us no good sitting in a vault no matter how
valuable they are. But the flagrant way
he is using his father’s work to push himself is horrible. It’s like he’s admitted he has no talent and
so he must sell the work of a genius in order to get ahead. And thus he has smarmed his way onto my
“People I’d Like to See Sitting in a Pool Full of Snails” list. Enjoy the honor, Julian. Only the truly selfish will be there with
you.
