TI is Stuck in the Middle

Posted by Sam on 4th August 2008 in Hip Hop, Politics, T.I.

While TI isn’t openly admitting to some of his legal problems, he is admitting that he’s having trouble telling unregistered voters in DC “If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.” Someone should have thought about things more before pleading guilty to felony weapons charges and officially forfeiting his right to vote. However, the Hip Hop Caucus still selected the rapper as their official spokesperson justifying their decision by saying “.I. can’t vote in this election and to come and encourage others to vote, especially young folks from disenfranchised communities, while he still is in the system, is an act of courage and great leadership. Felon disenfranchisement is a major issue that particularly impacts communities of color.”

T.I. Wins

He may have been busted for making his bodyguard buy guns for him when he’s a convicted felon who’s not allowed to buy firearms but that doesn’t mean T.I. can’t have some good news given to him.

T.I. won two awards out of nine nominations at the BET Hip Hop Awards last weekend. The southern rapper didn’t walk the red carpet but he was in attendance for the show in one way or the other. News of his arrest got around which had some people talking. Rapper KRS-One said, “I’m saddened any time I hear of a hip-hopper being locked up or somehow being stunted in his life or his growth. I hope he wasn’t into nothing crazy.”

Common won CD of the year along with T.I. and he decided to dedicate his win to him saying “I salute my guy T.I., who also won, wherever he is.”
