Rihanna Breaks Beyonce’s Record

Rihanna’s new single ‘Rude Boy’ is the 14th track from the Barbadian singer to make its way on the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 singles. That officially breaks Beyonce’s record of having the most Top 10s by a female artist in a decade. Rihanna is now even with Ludacris and is only second to Jay-Z who has 15 Top 10s. I am absolutely thrilled for her even though I’m not into the current music that she has. I hope that her upcoming release is much better. I also hope that Beyonce doesn’t resurrect Sasha Fierce or she might get her title back.

DMX Does Gospel

DMX is putting on a gospel rap extravaganza at his church this weekend. It has been reported that the often incarcerated rapper agreed to perform at the Morning Star Sanctified Church for a fundraiser tomorrow and he’s doing it for free. According to Pastor Barbara King, DMX and his family have been members of the congregation for eight months now and he really wanted to help raise money for repairs. DMX said “This is an opportunity for me to use my gifts to benefit a good cause. My music offers hope! God has been good to me!” Tickets are selling from $35 to $40.

Paul McCartney on Tour

Sir Paul McCartney will be performing his first ever solo stadium tour in the UK this coming summer. The 67-year old Beatles legend will also be headlining Hard Rock Calling and then the Isle of Wight music festival with Jay-Z and The Strokes. The singer said “It’s always brilliant to play for the home crowd and these dates are the ones that me and the band are really excited about. This will be my first show on the Isle of Wight and I’m looking forward to a rollicking night of rock ‘n’ roll. I always remember hearing such great things about this festival and it has such a sense of history with the likes of Jimi Hendrix playing there the first time round.”

John Mayer and Ke$ha Flirt on Twitter

John Mayer has been flirting with Ke$ha over Twitter recently. This past weekend, the soft rock singer asked his fans to stop denying their own love for her and own up to the fact that they like her music. John then sent a personal message to the trashy pop star saying “Dear Ke$ha, you have won me over with your tricks and charms and I must tell you I really like your song. Though I must add I tried brushing with a bottle of Jack and I chipped a tooth on the glass. Where might I remit an invoice?” Ke$ha responded with a lyric to one of her new songs because she just can’t handle any more mental thoughts, saying “Dear John Mayer. Don’t be a little bitch wit ur chit chat. Jus $how me where ur dick’s at . x”

New Rihanna Album This Year

Following the disappointing sales of her most recently album, music insiders are saying that Rihanna is looking to release a new one by this summer. Supposedly, the Barbadian beauty of a singer is looking to have a lighter sound in this upcoming record, something more fun that ‘Rated R’, proving that she has moved on from her “dark period”. If she’s going back to the basics, that sounds pretty good to me. There’s only so much darkness that we can deal with. And I started to like Rihanna when she was more fun anyway. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us.

Madonna is Loyal

Warner Bros. Records is losing two legends this week. First to leave is Liz Rosenberg, a public relations icon who has been with the company for the past 39 years and has handled some of the biggest names in history. Second to leave is Madonna, who is following Liz as she forms her own agency, Liz Rosenberg Media. Fortunately for the label, the split is on amicable terms and both the singer and Liz plan to continue to have ongoing consultations with the company. Madonna’s willingness to follow Liz out the door comes from such a long relationship that started back at the dawn of the Queen of Pop’s music career. Talk about being loyal!

Jay-Z Wants Lily Allen

Jay-Z apparently wants to collaborate with British train wreck of a singer Lily Allen. The rapper recently spoke with BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat and told the media that he plans to collaborate with the drunkard for the Wireless Festival. Jay-Z said “I spoke to Lily Allen. I’m trying to get her for Wireless. Hopefully that goes through. I bum-rushed them in the corner where they can’t say no. I know her for a minute (sic). I think she’s a great artist. I respect her. We just haven’t (collaborated) yet.” I like Jay-Z’s music but I am completely uninterested if ever he does partner up with Lily.

Beyonce Sells Big

The Recording Industry Association of America recently announced a compilation of its awards for the past decade last week and there was one artist who came out about the rest – Beyonce! The R&B singer reached more gold and platinum sales milestones than any of her competitors with 64 RIAA certifications. Those certifications include that of albums, digital songs, master ring tones and music videos. Beyonce also led the pack with 19 ring tone certifications. That is one mighty amazing career. Congratulations to Beyonce for achieving so much! However, it doesn’t really mean that I love her. I like her but I’m not that much into her anymore.

Timbaland is a big risk taker

The singer and producer recently admitted that he is not shy when it comes to taking risks with his music. This is what Timbaland said on the matter: “I’m definitely a risk taker with my music. I like to challenge the new sounds. If I can challenge whatever’s out there, then I’m good. My style is to take something unexpected and make it into a hit. That’s what I do. I have ideas whirring around my head all the time. I listen to a lot of weird music. I go to India, yeah. I know Indian people. I know somebody in every culture. I go overseas and gather my sound.” Timbaland really doesn’t take as many risks as he may think… nobody’s going to sue him for being original. But take a look at the Black Eyed Peas, now those are risk takers! That much plagiarizing is what even Timbaland himself might call a very big risk.

John Mayer Gets a Job Offer

John Mayer recently got an interesting job offer – the singer got an offer to write his own porno. In his now infamous interview with Playboy Magazine where he dropped the N-word, John also said that his dream is to write porn. Now, Vivid Entertainment is offering him the chance to write and direct one of its upcoming movies. The porn company wrote a letter to the musician talking about how his talents “have touched so many” and how it could extend into the porn industry. At least John now has a plan B is his music career ends up tanking.

White Stripes VS Air Force

On Super Bowl Sunday, an ad for the Air Force used music that suspiciously sounded like The White Stripes song ‘Fell in Love with a Girl’. The band and their management are pissed off and have released a statement announcing their intention to take action to stop the song running in the ad. They said “WE BELIEVE OUR SONG WAS RE-RECORDED AND USED WITHOUT PERMISSION OF THE WHITE STRIPES, OUR PUBLISHERS, LABEL OR MANAGEMENT. THE WHITE STRIPES TAKE STRONG INSULT AND OBJECTION TO THE AIR FOCE RESERVES PRESENTING THIS ADVERTISEMENT WITH THE IMPLICATION THAT WE LICENSED ONE OF OUR SONGS TO ENCOURAGE RECRUITMENT DURING A WAR THAT WE DO NOT SUPPORT… WE HAVE NOT LICENSED THIS SONG TO THE AIR FORCE RESERVE AND WE PLAN TO TAKE STRONG ACTION TO STOP THE AD CONTAINING THIS MUSIC.”

Huge Music Event on 10-10-10

I’m not sure exactly what will be going down, I don’t know who’s going to be there and I’m not entirely sure what it’s even really called. However, 10-10-10 actually works for me. It’s recently been reported that something big will be happening in music on October 10th, 2010. The event is said to be so epic that it will appear on all three major music networks, MTV, VH1 and CMT. The only hint that sources have given is that the event will be “highlighting the top artists of the decade as selected by the viewer”. That could be anything! It could be a tribute concert, an awards show or even just a countdown. I wonder what it really is.

Lady Gaga and Lindsay Lohan Duet

Music producer Rodney Jerkins thinks that combining the amazing talents of Lady Gaga with the so-called talents – or lack thereof – of Lindsay Lohan could make for an amazing collaboration. But perhaps the first major step before he starts thinking about getting the singer and the freak together is getting Lindsay to get her own act together. Thankfully enough, Rodney agrees to that. He said “If she stays focused, I think she has what it takes. I’ve talked to her, and I said, ‘You’ve got what it takes. I really believe in you.’” He’s got to be the first person, if not the only one, to say that to Lindsay.

Michael Jackson’s estate needs young, talented, self-motivating people who didn’t pay much attention to the news back in 2004-2005. Lawyers for the King of Pop’s estate have recently filed legal documents asking the probate judge for permission to hire people to run the late singer’s business. Specifically, the estate is looking to hire co-executive and creative directors. According to the documents, “With the proper executive and creative management and leadership, the opportunity exists for the MJJ Business to become one of the most profitable companies in the music industry.” So who needs a job and is willing to wait for a judge to settle all these creditor’s claims before getting paid?

New Kings of Leon Deal is a Hoax

Sources claimed that Kings of Leon had left Columbia Records for Warner Brothers and that the band’s new deal involves them paying half of the recording costs in exchange for more control of their music and greater profit. However, the band says that they are loyal to their label and that the switch is simply untrue. The members of the band released a statement saying “Consider the source. Kings of Leon have always had and continue to have a great relationship with their label.” Good for them. However, that would have been such a great deal if it was true.
